America Needs DOERS, Not Talkers

Written by Glenn Horowitz on Thursday, 08 August 2013. Posted in Opinion, Glenn Horowitz

In the age of the Obama Panopticon, all hope for a restoration of liberty seems lost. The reality, though, is that citizens armed with the truth can still change the trajectory of the nation for the better.

America Needs DOERS, Not Talkers

It's been some time since I wrote an article for publication in the American Daily Herald. I regret that, since I do enjoy writing (especially once I've finished a piece). The hitch has been the fact that there just hasn't been anything in the old idea box worth throwing my limited energy into. No lame excuses of 'writers' block' here, I'm afraid the cupboard's just been bare...but hopefully that situation will see a change for the better shortly.

American Citizens Squarely In the Government's Sights

Written by Glenn Horowitz on Tuesday, 12 March 2013. Posted in Opinion, Glenn Horowitz

Teetering on the precipice and gazing into the dark maw of tyranny and oppression, it is obvious we need a revolution. But it must be a revolution of ideas, and not of violence.

American Citizens Squarely In the Government's Sights

While I haven't been shy of expressing my grave misgivings about our government's behavior in my writing for this opinion column for more than the past year, I saw something within the last couple of weeks that alarmed me even more, especially when considered in context with the legislation and actions already actualized by our government. I'm speaking, of course, of the news that an unusual series of shooting targets billed as the "No More Hesitation" line depicting ordinary Americans are to be used for firearms training by the Department of Homeland Security, the military, and other agencies. I found it appalling to see examples of these targets; rather than some generic 'bad guy' they feature photographs of pregnant women, children, and the elderly in normal daily surroundings, wholly unremarkable save that each just happens to be holding a firearm.

Forks and Knives

The American security state presses onward and the bitter cup of tyranny is being presented to a once free people. Still, the triumph of evil is not a foregone conclusion. The great goodness of the American people may yet win the day.

Forks and Knives

Now, a very great man once said
That some people rob you with a fountain pen
It don't take too long to find out
Just what he was talking about
A lot of people don't have much food on their table
But they got a lot of forks and knives
And they gotta cut something. ~Bob Dylan

Celebrating Freedom at the Music City Liberty Fest

On November 3, 2012, Nashville was host to an exciting and singular event: the first Music City Liberty Fest. Glenn Horowitz reports.

Inspired by the successes of the PaulFest events this past August in Tampa, the Music City Liberty Fest was one of a number of such events coming into being across America as those promoting freedom apply their efforts to spreading its message as far and wide as possible. For them now is the time to stand up for liberty as never before, not only to recover Americans' rights that have been usurped over the years by those consumed by libido dominandi, the venal and the merely corrupt, but to combat these individuals' accelerating plans to complete the closing of a once-free country into the dreary totalitarian regime it has become.

The Escalating War on Journalists

Written by Glenn Horowitz on Thursday, 11 October 2012. Posted in Opinion, Glenn Horowitz

Police states always crack down on free expression. In 21st century America, police are increasingly targeting photographers and journalists and their war on the First Amendment is a troubling sign that America is no longer the land of the free.

The Escalating War on Journalists

Not long ago I published an article about Antonio Buehler and his ordeal with the Austin, Texas police department on New Year's Day that led to his founding of the Peaceful Streets Project, an organization dedicated to checking the systemic violence menacing ordinary people in the person of abusive police in Austin. Through peaceful voluntary action by community members, like  recording police in their interactions with people and educating the public about their own rights and responsibilities as citizens exercising their lawful authority, Peaceful Streets aims to hold Austin's police accountable for their actions. I was excited when I discovered the Peaceful Streets Project, as one firmly convinced that sunlight is indeed the best disinfectant it seemed to me promising as an effective remedy to counter the sort of unpleasant incidents of police abusing their authority we've seen so many times in recent years. It is by no means alone in this goal, other organizations and individuals across America are doing much the same thing in their communities and Peaceful Streets is actively seeking to coordinate with them as well as help new chapters of the program arise in other cities. I'm a big fan of the peaceful and positive change possible with this approach.

Book Review — Classified Woman: The Sibel Edmonds Story

Written by Glenn Horowitz on Wednesday, 15 August 2012. Posted in Opinion, Glenn Horowitz

Sibel Edmonds, one-time translator for the FBI and later a whistleblower, once had her entire life classified top secret. Now, at last, she tells her story in a new book.

Book Review — Classified Woman: The Sibel Edmonds Story

I first became aware of Sibel Edmonds' ordeal as an F.B.I. whistleblower some time around 2005 when articles like this Vanity Fair piece discussing it began surfacing online. Sibel, Iranian born and raised in Turkey before emigrating to the United States in 1988, was at the time a fervent believer in the established mainstream view of the American system, likely more so than many born here thanks to her firsthand view of the official repression of the regimes in those countries.

Antonio Buehler Wants Peaceful Streets for Everyone

An unfortunate encounter with overly aggressive cops in Austin, Texas has led to a small silver lining -- the creation of the Peaceful Streets Project.

Antonio Buehler Wants Peaceful Streets for Everyone

I first became familiar with Antonio Buehler and the details of his run-in with the Austin, Texas Police Department in the early hours of New Years' Day during the first week of January 2012 when he appeared on Alex Jones' show to discuss his story. This one really caught my attention.

For What It's Worth

Has Ron Paul abandoned the liberty movement? Based on his long history of principled work on behalf of freedom, not likely.

For What It's Worth

There's something happening here
What it is ain't exactly clear
There's a man with a gun over there
Telling me I got to beware

I think it's time we stop, children, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

The 'Anyone But Obama' Trap

Written by Glenn Horowitz on Thursday, 07 June 2012. Posted in Opinion, Glenn Horowitz

I reject the 'anyone but Obama' concept for several reasons and will never vote for Romney or any 'lesser evil' who I believe could be even worse for America if they're cut from the same cloth as Obama is.

REAL Warriors Oppose the State’s War on Cannabis

Americans are subject to severe penalties for laws that are at best capricious for the non-crime of seeking natural remedies for painful and debilitating disorders.

The Sword That Delivers Life

Written by Glenn Horowitz on Wednesday, 09 May 2012. Posted in Opinion, Glenn Horowitz

Weapons, liberals assure us, take lives. Guns kill people, they proclaim. But used properly a weapon gives life and understanding the life affirming power of the sword or the gun is essential to restoring freedom.

The Sword That Delivers Life

In Japanese, there are two expressions:

Satsujinken - the sword which kills, which takes life.

Katsujinken - the sword which gives life.

It is the same sword, the difference is in the person who uses it.

To kill the desire within oneself to hurt or kill another is the meaning of the "life-giving" sword.

Escape from Camp 14: One Man's Remarkable Odyssey from North Korea to Freedom in the West

For those who will see, "Escape from Camp 14" is a cautionary tale that should be regarded as proof that it can happen here.

Escape from Camp 14: One Man's Remarkable Odyssey from North Korea to Freedom in the West

"Our fellow citizens, who are the best citizens in the world, who have overcome countless struggles and hardships, it is our party’s firmest resolve not to let our citizens go hungry again."

"Our military has become a powerful military able to handle any kind of modern warfare, with complete offensive and defensive capabilities. The foreign powers are not the only ones with monopoly on military supremacy, and the days of their threatening and lying to us with atomic weapons is forever gone"

The Supreme Con

Written by Glenn Horowitz on Monday, 09 April 2012. Posted in Opinion, Glenn Horowitz

In a new ruling allowing the use of strip searches at almost any time, the Supreme Court joins in the federal campaign to strip Americans of their freedom and dignity.

The Supreme Con

I believe that liberty is the only genuinely valuable thing that men have invented, at least in the field of government, in a thousand years. I believe that it is better to be free than to be not free, even when the former is dangerous and the latter safe. I believe that the finest qualities of man can flourish only in free air — that progress made under the shadow of the policeman's club is false progress, and of no permanent value. I believe that any man who takes the liberty of another into his keeping is bound to become a tyrant, and that any man who yields up his liberty, in however slight the measure, is bound to become a slave.
~H. L. Mencken

In Memoriam: Andrew Wordes, Enemy of the State

Written by Glenn Horowitz on Friday, 30 March 2012. Posted in Opinion, Glenn Horowitz

The power of the state is the power to destroy. Let us not forget its victims, from the millions killed by despots abroad, to our very neighbors here at home beset by brutal bureaucracies.

In Memoriam: Andrew Wordes, Enemy of the State

“It was as though in those last minutes he was summing up the lessons that this long course in human wickedness had taught us — the lesson of the fearsome, word-and-thought-defying banality of evil. ” ― Hannah Arendt

His Majesty, King Obama

Written by Glenn Horowitz on Monday, 19 March 2012. Posted in Opinion, Glenn Horowitz

Presidents have long used executive orders to promulgate dangerous and sometimes scandalous policies. In his latest executive order President Obama reiterates the notion that the federal government can take control of literally everything in the country.

Seriously, without me there would be nothing.
You must refer to me by my complete title: King of Everything. Rei di Tutto.
