3 Natural Ways to Fight Depression

DepressionDepression is a mental illness in which a person is in a depressed mood for long periods of the day. They constantly experience feelings of worthlessness, guilt, and overall sadness every day and begin to lose interest in daily activities.

There are many types of depression. While this is something that many of us already know, we may not be familiar with the many different ways it can be combatted naturally. While there are many prescription medications on the market designed to stabilize mood, many believe that natural therapies are easier on the body and, for some, may even be more effective.

All types of depression can take a serious toll on one’s well-being and should be treated as soon as possible. Luckily, depression can be treated and things can be done in order to fight off the depression symptoms. Although it is not a good thing to go through and does involve feeling very sad there is help out there and there are things you can do to naturally fight depression.

1. Exercise
One way to fight depression is by exercising. When you exercise the natural pain relief system in your body is boosted and can relieve depression symptoms. Exercising regularly can help to release norepinephrine which is a neurotransmitter that affects mood and also boosts endorphins. If you have depression and need a positive boost in your mood, exercise is as great as an antidepressant. You will be fit and fighting off the negative effects of depression.

2. Taking Vitamins and Natural Supplements
Another way to naturally fight depression is by taking vitamins and other nutritional supplements. Folic acid and B-vitamins fight off the feelings of sadness associated with the mental illness. B-6 is very important because it helps the brain release mood enhancing chemicals. Taking other supplements such as omega-3 and other fatty acids found in flax seed. Taking the correct amounts of B vitamins, folic acid and omega-3 can keep depression signs at bay and keep you in a more positive mood. Staying happy and mentally healthy is very important when facing a mental illness such as depression.

3. Using Natural Medicine
Hypericum perforatum (St. John's wort) is a highly recommended homeopathic remedy for depression and many other illnesses. It works by slowing the breakdown the serotonin in the brain. This helps to keep the chemicals in the brain balanced.

Overall there are natural ways to fight depression. Fighting depression can be as easy as working out for about a half an hour. Depression is not easy to go through but once it is controlled it is easier to live a happy life. Just remember to exercise regularly, make sure you get the correct vitamins and give hypericum perforatum a try.

    I think you mean Herbal not homeopathic. The former is the use of herbs, the latter is dilution of chemicals in water and banging the solution to create "water memory."
