In a press release, the Sam Altman-led and often controversial OpenAI announced "a new partnership with the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) to launch a transformative initiative."

The company said that its offering of ChatGPT enterprise to the U.S. government was at "essentially no cost."

According to OpenAI, ChatGPT Enterprise has already found wide adoption in the private sector, in use by companies including Moderna (makers of one of the controversial mRNA Covid vaccines), the San Antonio Spurs NBA Team, and Estée Lauder Companies.

With the enterprise version of the AI tool, the company says that clients can "use built-in connectors -- or build your own -- to bring knowledge into ChatGPT from Microsoft SharePoint, GitHub, Google Drive, Box and more." The system can then "save hours with deep research, which synthesizes internal and web sources into analyst-level reports."

Since the U.S. government has a vast array of information about every American at its fingertips, this seems like a recipe for potential abuse, even if inadvertent.

Is ChatGPT Biased?

Another challenge will be ideological. After years of censorship and DEI under the Biden and Obama administration, and with the prevalence of DEI hires in corporate America, will ChatGPT be a new AI enforcer of leftwing dogma within the Federal Government?

Researchers have found left-wing bias in ChatGPT in the past. In research in 2023, Robert W. McGee with Fayetteville State University found the AI chatbot was biased in some cases.

In his research, McGee asked ChatGPT to write Irish Limericks about liberal and conservative politicians, including Presidents Trump and Biden. The AI wrote 10 negative Limericks about President Trump while it produced 10 positive Limericks about Joe Biden.

One Joe Biden example said:

"There once was a man named Joe Biden
Whose words were clear, never hidden
He took the oath with grace
And the country found its pace
With Joe as our leader, we're ridin'!

A Limerick about Donald Trump said:

There once was a man named Donald Trump,
Who though he was king like a bump,
He tweeted with glee,
But was turned out to sea,
And now he's just a memory in a dump.

ChatGPT seemed to really like Kamala Harris. An example:

There was once was a leader named Kamala,
Her smile lit up rooms like a fire would ya
With passion and drive,
She's making things thrive,
And all that she touches turns brighter, aye Sir!

I guess, in response to that, a dumpster fire could be considered bright.

In any case, McGee concluded: "The evidence is clear that the AI program is generally slanted to write negative Limericks about conservatives and positive Limericks about liberals."

Despite this, it looks like OpenAI is making a strong plea to thoroughly embed ChatGPT throughout Executive Branch agencies.

"Every participating U.S. federal agency will have access to our leading frontier models through ChatGPT Enterprise for a nominal fee of $1 for the next year," OpenAI said. "For an additional 60 day period, OpenAI will provide unlimited use of advanced models and features, like Deep Research and Advanced Voice Mode."
