Russian sources have confirmed that Vladimir Putin will meet with President Trump to discuss the ongoing war in Ukraine.

Fox News reported that Yuri Ushakov, an aide to the Russian President, confirmed that "at the suggestion of the American side, an agreement was agreed upon in principle to hold a bilateral meeting at the highest level in the coming days..."

On Wednesday, July 6, Trump took to Truth Social to describe Steve Witkoff's diplomatic success on the issue when meeting with President Putin.

"My Special Envoy, Steve Witkoff, just had a highly productive meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin," President Trump wrote. "Great progress was made! Afterwards, I updated some of our European Allies. Everyone agrees this War must come to a close, and we will work towards that in the days and weeks to come. Thank you for your attention to this matter!"

According to Russian state-owned news agency RIA Novosti, Witkoff met with Vladimir Putin in the Kremlin on July 6 in a meeting that "lasted more than three hours."

The Russian news agency reported that through the diplomatic process, "the leaders of the two countries exchanged signals on Ukraine, and the prospects for the development of strategic cooperation between Moscow and Washington were discussed."

Reports from both the Russian and American sides have indicated that the target date for holding the meeting between the leaders of the world's two most powerful nuclear powers is within a week, though, RIA Novosti said, "it is still difficult to say how many days preparation will take."
