Mayor Giuliani was driving in New Hampshire when he was flagged down by someone who needed help. The former Mayor of New York City pulled over to render aid to the person, who turned out to be a woman who had been the victim of domestic violence in an incident that had happened earlier.
Michael Ragusa, the head of Mayor Giuliani's security, detailed the incident in a statement.
"On the evening of August 30, 2025, in New Hampshire, Mayor Giuliani was involved in a motor vehicle accident," the statement said. "Prior to the incident, he was flagged down by a woman who was the victim of a domestic violence incident."
While stopped to assist, Giuliani called 911 for the victim and he stayed on the scene until police arrived to make sure she was safe. He then continued on his way, and that's when tragedy struck.
The statement from Ragusa provided details on what happened next.
After helping the victim, the statement said, "while traveling on the highway, Mayor Giuliani's vehicle was struck from behind at high speed. He was transported to a nearby trauma center, where he was diagnosed with a fractured thoracic vertebrae, multiple lacerations and contusions, as well as injuries to his left arm and lower leg."
In the post on X.com that accompanied the statement, Ragusa noted that the Mayor "is in good spirits and recovering tremendously."
This was not a targeted attack. We ask everyone to respect Mayor Giuliani’s privacy and recovery, and refrain from spreading unfounded conspiracy theories.

Somewhat oddly, though, in a follow up post Ragusa noted that the accident was not part of an effort to deliberately hurt the Mayor.
"This was not a targeted attack," Ragusa said in the follow up. "We ask everyone to respect Mayor Giuliani's privacy and recovery, and refrain from spreading unfounded conspiracy theories."
According to the New York Post, Giuliani was riding as a passenger in a Ford Bronco when the accident occurred.
The Post reported: "As police were responding to the domestic-violence incident on Interstate 93, the Bronco was struck in the back by a Hondo HR-V driven by 19-year-old Lauren Kemp of Concord, and both vehicles ended up barreling into the median, cops said."
The Bronco was being driven at the time by Theodore Goodman. He, along with Mayor Giuliani and the driver of the Honda, 19-year-old Lauren Kemp, "were all taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said," according to the Post.
According to the New Hampshire State Police, the accident occurred just before 10 p.m. on Interstate 93 in Manchester.
"Troopers and fire personnel, who were at the scene of the first incident, witnessed the collision and quickly crossed the interstate to render aid," said a statement from the State Police.
"No charges have been filed at this time and all aspects of the crash remain under investigation," the police said.
